Accessible Rubic's Cubes

Category: Accessible Games

Do any of you know if they still make those accessible rubic's cubes? They had raised shapes on each side. I could probably get a regular one and braille it, but I imagine the labels would come off after a while.

I never knew there were accessible thingies liek this. I don't know if they're still around, but if they are I want one, seeing as I've never had the experience of doing one.

I want one, to! Someone told me such a thing existed, but never told me where/if I could get my hands on one!

I know of what you speak, and I must ahve seen one in the late Eighties or early Nineties. Not sure if they can be had anywhere anymore or who did the adaptations to it. Yeah, like I'm some big help, but I haven't seen them in any of the catalogs I know of.

I hope someone comes up with an answer to this question. I never knew there was such a thing. When the cubes first got popular, I had enough vision to see the colors and actually cheated by buying a book that told how to solve it. I probably wouldn't be able to remember the code now since it has been so many years. But if there are accessible ones out there, I sure would like to try again.

wow the last time I used one of those was when I was a kid. Before I was diagnosed with RP. Those things are tough as nails to accomplish getting the right colors in the right areas. Those things are fun for a while but got boring. I never knew one of those existed for the blind/vi.

If that's what I think it is, my neighbor used to have one. What he had was this plastic cube full of small squares that his friend told me had different colors on them, and you could turn the top, middle, and bottom of the cube.
However, I was never told what the name of it was, so I'm not sure if that's the same thing you all are thinking of or not.
I never knew what to do with the thing either, so I just turned the thing around and around until I got bored with it.

Well, I used label tape and made my own. I have clear label tape, as I have a sighted spouse, and you gotta have consideration for those folks (lol). Anyway, the labels were fine until a small child slobbered all over them. Like a previous poster, I don't know where mine is anymore. Before I got a "real" job, and I was in graduate school, I used to talk to groups of children and adults about what it was like being blind. Two things I did with children to introduce braille were cards and the Rubick's Cube. I'd pull out the cube and ask the children what it was. They knew. I'd then ask them if they wanted me to solve one side behind my back. I'd ask them to tell me what color I should make it. They'd tell me, and I'd line it up so that all of one color was visible on one surface of the cube. I'd ask them how I did it, and then, send the cube around for them to see.

I know there was a keychain version of the cube, but I'm betting it was too small to braille. I haven't thought about this for a long time. I don't know if you can even find a standard cube, and sure didn't know someone had already made one accessible.

I never knew they had one. I want one! I think things you get to mess with and are a challenge are a ton of fun, and now I won't rest easy until I find out and possibly get one. Lol, I shall undertake this mission and post back

Yeah! I want one too! I used one back when I had sight. I always wondered why I never found a tactile one anywhere. They have to be out there somewhere...
